Hello. Welcome to the first web page of our new daughter, Miss Kaetlin Elizabeth.
She was taken a month early by c-section due to further complications of the pregnancy. She was born at 11:03 am on Friday October 20, 2000. Because she wasn't due to be born for another month yet, her lungs weren't fully developed.
Unfortunately she did not respond to the treatment the hospital was giving her to assist her breathing and she had to be transported to another hospital that had a neo-natal intensive care unit that was better equiped to take care of her.
|At 1:30 am Saturday morning she was ready for transport. Here she can be seen in the portable incubator they use. Because her mother was still recovering from the surgery, she had to stay while I followed the ambulance down to the other hospital.|
|It's a terrible thing to see your child laid up in a bed with tubes and wires coming from every which way, even more horrifying when it's a newborn.
|She remained on a respirator for the next three days and was given injections of a new drug that helps promote growth in under-developed lungs. They gradually lowered the oxygen/air mixture until she was able to breath more room air than pure oxygen.|
|Here she is catching some Florida rays. To bad they were from a light treating her for jaundis.|
Kaetlin Gets To Come Home
It's nice to have everyone home now. It's almost a week later than we expected, but better late than never.|
She weighed in at 7 lbs 3 ounces and was 19" long the day she was released. She was 8 lbs 5 oz at birth, a lot of which was fluid retention due to gestational diabetes, according to the doctors.
She has dark brown hair and blue eyes, (a gift from her maternal grandfather, may he rest in peace). She has her mother's nose and chin, (adorable on both ladies). And somewhat favors our son. (I was told that this was due to him and momma fighting all the time while she was pregnant. Don't you just love old wives tales..lol)
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to the newest member of our family, Miss Kaetlin Elizabeth!
This pretty much concludes the first page of her web site. Each page will be a different milestone in her life. To keep the load time down to a minimum, I will post only so many pictures per page.
